CHAZ RIDDLE AKA THE CHAZMAN BLOG

12/9/24   Yesterday was Pearl Harbor day. I hope you took a few mins to remember the fallen heroes and their sacrifices.  Friday the 6th was the end of my first week as your afternoon drive time guy for Cool Oldies 1450. It was a good week. It’ll get better too. I promise.  Three weeks til Christmas and about seven weeks until we welcome back a returning president in DC. Thank goodness! Now is a good time to get in touch with people in you may not have talked to in a while. Don’t wait for them to call you.You call them! You’ll be glad you did.  😃  Now is a great time for movies too. If you haven’t seen Gladiator 2……GO! It deserves to be seen in a theatre with other people. Nothing beats the communal experience of a great sword and sandal flick with a crowd cheering and all the colleseum battles. You won’t be disappointed.  Also go see Wicked but be warned, it’s a 2 parter and the second part won’t come out for another year.  One of Frederick, Maryland’s most beloved restaurants will close its doors for the final time on Sunday. La Paz owner Graham Baker decided it was the right time to retire. We wish him well! Have a great day folks. I’ll talk to you Monday through Friday from 3 til 6 pm. The Chazman (like Batman) doesn’t rhyme with Jazmine…. FYI

11/25/24  November! Wow what a month. New president or should I say “returning” president coming in, Veterans day, Marine Corps birthday and my 42nd. anniversary of becoming a Marine. It’s all so much to be thankful for. Fyi My Sonia is having a birthday Monday. I’m thankful for her.  This Thanksgiving we’ll all probably eat too much and sleep too little. We’ll watch football on TV and visit with family and friends. We’ll listen to music on the radio. We’ll travel miles and miles to our various destinations and we’ll try and have the life we imagined. We’ll hopefully put our differences aside and trust that God has a plan for each of us no matter how confusing or winding the road seems.  bThey say perspective is the result of bad decisions but sometimes the lessons are painful. This year I wish you good lessons without pain. Be kind when you can. You don’t know what lessons some people are receiving and the pain they are experiencing.  Think of it this way. If someone’s life was a tv show and you only saw a few episodes, how could you possibly know that person and their struggles? Try not to judge. Give them a few more episodes and see if they are the hero they want to be. Root for them. You just might be the hero they need a lesson from.  See ya soon. 😊  Chazman Mon thru Fri 9 -12.

9/30/24  Time flies. No sooner than I started planning my trip to Europe, I went and now it’s just a memory.  It’s almost October and my dad will turn 91 this month. I bet he never thought he’d see the day that he would blow out 91 candles on a cake.  Sooner than we all realize, time sneaks up and bites us on the bum. I have a son that’s 33 and a daughter that’s 31 and I’ve been out of the Marine Corps for 38 years. Seems like yesterday that I turned 18 and now I’ve done it 3 times. It’s amazing how certain things happen that direct your whole life.  What if you got a better or worse grade on a test you took in high school or what if you decided that sports weren’t for you and that studying music was. How would your life be different?  All I can say is, you need to cherish the people around you, welcome new opportunities and allow yourself to grow without regret.  Here’s to you loyal listeners. I’m thankful for you. Let’s keep it going! Let’s all look forward to celebrating our 91st birthday. Enjoy this life. You only get one shot. Stay tuned!

9/9/24  Well here it is, a week away from heading to the ocean for my yearly retreat. I plan to lay in the 🌞, build sand castles, go to happy hour and listen to great 🎶. And like shampoo, I will rinse and repeat!  I will definitely catch up on some much needed 😴 too. I need it!   What a year this has been. I did several TV shows, commercials and movies and became the voice of the Virginia lottery. I traveled to Europe for 3 weeks and lo and behold, I am approaching my 1 year anniversary on the air with WTHU. Busy is good  No worries though folks, I’ll still be on the air playing all your favorites from 9 -12. Just cuz I’m on vacation doesn’t mean I become a total 🐌  Have a great week folks, I’ll be thinking about new ways to entertain you every morning. C ya

9/2/24 Today I’ll be helping you celebrate the holiday by playing songs about work so while you kick back, I’ll do all the heavy lifting.   If you like 9 to 5 by Dolly and Working for the weekend by Loverboy, well this is for you.  Summer;s over but we have lots to do. Lots of great music and lots of football games to cover for you. Make sure you tune in right after Kemo for me and stick around all day because we have a great team playing great songs for you all day. Also head over to the sports broadcast schedule so you can hear all the exciting coverage of local high school  football games.

Have a great day and a great week.
FYI, I’ll be at the O’s ⚾️ game today. Come find me.  I’m in section 1.
I’ll be the guy in the orange shirt!  C ya

8/26/24  42 years ago today!

The journey began. USMC Parris Island SC. I’m 18 and filled with confusion and disbelief. “Did I really sign up for this?”
I had never been on a plane before or too far from home.  I took a flight from BWI to somewhere mysterious in the middle of the night and like a fish out of water I was flapping all over the place. People I had never met were yelling at me. It was like a bad dream. I hadn’t slept in 2 days and now here I was getting off a plane and onto a bus and then trekking through the gates of someplace where everyone seemed to be in a big hurry. I couldn’t move fast enough. I barely remembered my name! Next thing I knew, a barber was scalping me and I had to wear funny clothes and boots. I was used to my sneakers. They were comfortable….these were stiff and too big. I felt like a clown. Long story short. Welcome to the Marines! I survived much to the surprise of the drill instructors. I wasn’t the most disciplined person they’d ever met but I refused to quit no matter what they threw at me. I couldn’t come home with a bald head and NOT wearing a Marine uniform.  It wasn’t until 3 months later that I learned there was a big difference between broadcasting and communicating. I was a radio man with the infantry for 4 years. So much for reading the news….. Talk about devastating! however; here I am broadcasting now and hopefully I’ve got your attention. I’m not quiting now either. Get used to it folks. I may say stuff you don’t agree with but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.   The Chazman 9 -12 Mon thru Friday after Kemo.  C-YA!

8/19/24  Middle of August already!  Time flies. Kids are going back to school (whew! Say some parents.Thank goodness!) and labor day is fast approaching.  Soon we’ll be complaining about being cold and well, you know the drill. Things keep repeating just like the movie Groundhog day.  One thing that can change IF you’re proactive is by going to the polls in November. This is a big one guys. Don’t let what’s happened to us …..happen again.  Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. You can make a change. Until then, I’ll keep you entertained every day from 9 -12. C-ya

8/12/24 The Paris Olympics ended in epic fashion with Tom Cruise repelling into a crowded arena, getting the Olympic flag, jumping on  his motorcycle, (what else) riding through the streets of Paris near the Arch de Triomphe (I’ve been there!) and onto a plane to LA and parachuting to the Hollywood sign and erecting the Olympic rings. It’s official. The Olympics will return to America in 2028. This is a great time to be alive folks.  America won 126 medals at the Paris Olympics. 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze.  Some superstars were born and some completed lifelong dreams of victory! Some became millionaires with endorsement deals and some were just happy to be there. Throughout all of it, tears were shed…Some happy, some sad. It was an emotional roller coaster for sure. Did you love it like me? How can they top that? Are you excited for the LA Olympics in 2028? Maybe I’ll be there with a microphone covering it.  One can dream.  Let’s talk about it soon.  The Chazman. Monday thru Friday 9 -12  C-ya

8/5/24  Ah. Back on American soil. My European trip was a success. How often does one get the chance to broadcast from the Eiffel tower or the Colloseum in Rome? “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?  Let’s not forget, I also broadcast from Amsterdam, Iceland, Germany and Prague! BTW the tower of Pisa leans! No optical illusion there!  My special lady Sonia spent a few more days in Budapest after I left but she’s home now and everything is getting back to normal. Our next adventure is still a mystery but I’ll keep y’all informed. I’m thinking a big island with volcanoes nearby but it may be somewhere with pyramids.  What a time to be alive! The Olympics close soon and America is bringing home lots of gold and WTHU is playing all the golden oldies. (See what I did there?  Tune in weekdays 9 -12 after Kemo Joe.  I’m sure to keep you entertained  C – ya !

7/8/24  So as I travel the globe searching for the answers to questions I didn’t even know I had, my eyes have been opened to just how many damn cathedrals, churches, painted ceilings and statues for people I have never even heard about. It’s mind blowing and a bit overwhelming. I thought this would be a little stroll, see a few sights and eat some weird food. It’s so much more. Looks like I’ll have to come back again. Here’s what I have learned though. Music is universal. Every where I go, no matter the language, if I play a song on my phone loud enough for people to hear, everyone sings along. It could be Johnny Cash or Elton John, or even Little Eva, everyone knows the words. Maybe there is hope for the world!! I’ll be back soon and until then,  I’ll still bring you all the songs you love to hear Mon thru Fri from 9 -12 right after Kemo Joe.  Cheers 🍻

7/1/24  Well folks it’s been quite an adventure so far. I spent a few days in Iceland and watched the sun go down and then 2 hours later, watched it come back up. So weird! I went whale watching. I saw an amazing waterfall and rainbow at the Geizer tour. I tasted the local foods and then we were off to Amsterdam where I had an amazing few nights touring the flower markets, visiting the VanGogh museum and floating around the canals. Did I mention the Heineken factory? Yup free samples and with the time difference I was wobbly before 11am our time. Next is the big part of this tour. Keep it tuned to WTHU and check the FB page for pics. Guess where I am but be quick. It’s a whirlwind from here. Cheers!

Or as they say here, “PROOST!”  C ya!

6/17/24  Happy fathers day and welcome to summer everyone. We’re gonna have a hot one this week. All temps are gonna be in the 90s so find a nice cool place like WTHU and settle in. Thanks to everyone that came out to the car show and the lavender festival this weekend. Can’t wait to see you all again. Check out the pics from the car show on the  Facebook page. Great cars and you might just get a glimpse of me wearing my 50’s costume. I am greased lightening! Now sit back and have some lemonade in the shade. It’s time to tune in to the coolest songs on the planet. WTHURADIO.COM

6/10/24   Ok, so first off, The Chazman turned 60 today so officially, I’m middle aged! My friend said I don’t look a day over 45 and I actually don’t feel any older than 30 except when I first wake up in the morning and realize gravity is unkind and my knees, hips and feet are still snoozing and I had to visit the bathroom more than once or twice or three times! It’s fine though. I enjoy the late night strolls through the Chaz mansion. It gives me time to make sure the groundhogs that live under my shed are behaving. If Elmer Fudd was here, he’d take care of it but he’s been reassigned as security at the Miss Maryland pageant…. where a dude won the crown. He has his hands full! So does Miss Maryland apparently.   Ah the world we live in…….. but The O’s are on a roll and Gunner hit his 20th homerun, Adley hit his second career grandslam and Cedric is hitting again so it’s not all so bad. WTHU is still playing all your favorites and I am excited to see all of you on the 15th at the car show.  I’ll be the guy dressed like Danny from Grease. Get your motor running! C ya   BTW I’m not hydromatic but I’m trying!

6/3/24

Welcome to June 2024. As I write this, it’s Lou Gehrig day. All major league players are wearing #4 on their uniforms in tribute.  Father’s day is just around the corner.  The first day of summer is June 20th. On the 9th., I turn…… 60. Ouch!  Milestones!
Life comes at ya quick. Better pull up a seat, buckle up and enjoy the ride. Some people would like to hit the reset switch but optimism is a good thing. It makes ya get out of bed in the morning. It’s always good to look forward to something and I’m looking forward to hitting my next show milestone. My 200th show on wthuradio will come pretty soon and it’s all because you keep tuning in. Thank you. Have a great week everyone. I’ll see ya soon.

5/27/24

Memorial day is here and the beginning of summer and Father’s day is just around the corner. I’ll remind you over and over again to make plans with your dad on his special day so be prepared to hear me preach. I actually suggest that you listen to the Cody Johnson song.  🎶 ’til you can’t.  The first line is “You can tell your old man You’ll do some largemouth fishing another time.  You just got too much on your plate to bait and cast a line. You can always put a rain check in his hand.  ‘Til you can’t”
Pretty much sums it up. Don’t delay. He won’t be around forever. Nuff said Just watched the O’s crush the Redsox 11 to 3. I had great seats and I still haven’t caught a foul ball but I’m optimistic.  I’ll keep y’all up to date on my progress and of course I’ll be playing all your favorites every day right after Kemo. So tune in but you don’t have to necessarily turn on and drop out. Just sit back and enjoy.  Have a great week. C ya

5/20/24

What a week! From the sighting of the northern lights, to the Preakness, to seeing the world’s number one golfer get arrested before a tournament and then there’s the Orioles and Gunnar Henderson blasting homeruns in three games in a row against the Mariners. What a crazy and great time we’re living in. I saw a major motion picture salute to the The Fall Guy series starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt with a cameo by Lee Majors and it just gets better every day.
Trump and Biden are gonna square off in June and all the election drama that comes with it. Get your popcorn ready!
I wonder what’s in store for us next week!! One thing YOU can count on is WTHU playing all your favorites and keeping you entertained and informed. And like Casey Kasem said “keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars”.
Memorial day is coming up and the beginning of summer, so tune in every day so you dont miss a thing. I follow Kemo Joe from 9 til 12 Mon thru Fri so let’s do this!   Chazman loves ya!   C-ya

5/13/24

Happy Mothers day and I hope all of you followed my advice and made plans to take your mom out for a nice meal, maybe bought her  🌹 🌹  and a card or just picked up the phone and talked with her.
This is my first Mother’s day when I can’t do those things. However, the celebration goes on. My lovely Sonia woke up to fresh made brownies and a bouquet of beautiful flowers and that made her smile.
We are headed to the O’s ⚾️ game this Friday night.  We are both working on a local movie this week and sleep will be a precious commodity so we celebrate when we can. That being said, the music doesn’t stop so tune in all this week after Kemo Joe and we’ll have fun playing all your favorites. And don’t forget to send in the names of your family members that served in the military so we can pay tribute to them on memorial day weekend. Have a great week.
C -ya!

5/6/24

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone. Writing this as I stroll the treadmill at the gym. What a week last week was. Almost 1200 miles, I did 4 commercials driving from NJ to way below Luray caverns and minimal sleep in between. Also, I kept up with my daily morning show so I’d say I earned my keep.  Yesterday I binged STAR WARS from episode IV to VI and loved every bit of it.  May the 4th be with you!!
Took me back to my teenage years when I first discovered DarthVader and Luke Skywalker. Who didn’t wanna be Han Solo?! So cool and Greedo fired first just FYI.
Orioles are rocking the ⚾️  world. 3 out 4 against the Yankees and as I write this, already 2 wins against Cincinnati. I’ve got great tickets for the 17th. against the Mariners, right behind home plate! I splurged and got seats NOT in the nosebleed section. Carpe Diem etc!
Lots of stuff happening this month too. Mothers day, so don’t forget to send your mom flowers and treat her right. Also let us know your loved ones who served and we will read their name on air in tribute for Memorial day weekend.
Have a great week everyone. I’m with you every morning right after Kemo from 9 -12.
C -ya!

4/29/24

Well we’ve reached the end of the month and I’m anxious for May because the weather is getting just the way I like it. Sunny and clear skies. 😎
Busy last month and it’s gonna be another busy few days ahead also.
Tuesday I’ll be in NJ for the day and then Thursday Back to DC. All last week I was working on an infomercial. So much dialogue. Good thing I like to talk. I also found myself in a tuxedo for a big event in DC last week. It’s a whirlwind. Glad I can play your favorite songs for a few hours each day. It’s like therapy for me and I can use all I can get!
Caught a game at Camden yards…well a few innings at least.  Went Saturday and we won 7 to 0. Got my Brandon Hyde bobblehead so a good day all around.
Have a great week everyone.
C ya.

4/8/24

Well happy eclipse day everyone.
Either you’re reading this pre eclipse or you took my warning and wore protective eyewear during the eclipse but either way welcome to Monday.   It’s the simple things that make me happy. My tulips came up and they’re B E A – utiful!  My lawn looks great. The weather is warming up. I love the sunshine and I love the smell of fresh cut grass.   I hope everybody enjoyed the Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young weekend. It’s a lot of fun for us when we play music that is so well received.  So how do we top it? That depends on you. Start commenting early on what you prefer for our next event and we just might make it happen. Vote often and  vote early.  And now back to the music. C-ya!

4/1/24

Hey there Loyal listeners. I hope your Easter baskets overflowed and you enjoyed a nice weekend with your families.
The O’s won their season opener and series against the Angels so we’re off to a good start. Of course you’ll need to tune in to wthuradio.com for the best coverage of high school ⚾️  and softball in the area.   Here’s a couple of reminders …#1 Monday is April first, also known as April fools day so beware of pranks.  #2 Dont feed your dog the unwanted egg yolks from your Easter eggs especially if your dog sleeps in your bedroom with you or you may find yourself opening a window in the middle of the night..#3 Tune into the Chazman 9 -12 Mon thru Friday. You’ll be glad you did.   C-ya!

3/25/24

Well, here we are again at the beginning of a new week and the end of another month. Easter’s on its way and I hope warm weather comes with it.
Hard to believe on our 1st. day of Spring, we didn’t even crack forty degrees but that’s better than 1985 when it was only fifteen degrees….of course that was alaska and they’re probably used to it there. I like warm weather. I like going to the ball game in a t shirt and a pair of shorts. And ⚾️  starts on Thursday! O’s vs Angels at 3:05.
So, I’m always looking for new stories that will entertain you from a plethora of resources and one of the stories I found that you may have missed was the fact that the Olympic committee has lifted the athletes intimacy ban for the summer Olympics in Paris. The ban was originally put in place because of COVID but now that it’s been lifted, BEWARE!
If the Eiffel Tower’s a rockin’ …. don’t come a knockin’ !
Have a great week folks. Tune in daily for more entertaining tidbits from the Chazman. I’m here all week!
C-Ya!

3/11/24

Big month folks. Day light savings time hit us over the weekend. Today is Marine infantry day (0311). My grunts out there will understand. In a few days, it’s one for the geeks like me. March 14 is pi day (3.14) and then we have the Ides of March 3/15. Caesar met his fate on this day at the coliseum. Et tu, Brute’ ?  Of course the first day of Spring is coming March 19th. and then Oriole baseball kicks off 3/28 for their home opener against the Angels. Everyone gets a rally towel. I hope to see you there. I’ll be in the mezzanine area above right field. I’m gonna catch a ⚾️  this year!  I’ll be spot lighting some displays from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio. Went there a couple weeks ago and had a blast. Join me weekdays 9-12 right after Kemosabi Joe. Hopefully I’ll keep you entertained and help you have a little fun at work or when you’re out driving. C ya!

2/19/24  Just a heads up to folks. I’m headed to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame this week so, if you have any suggestions, things I should look for or questions I should ask….let me know.

2/16/24 Hey, everyone, it’s mid-February and things are getting exciting around here! I am heading to the Rock
N Roll Hall Of Fame next week and I’ll be doing some interviews and going behind the scenes of some of
their most popular and famous displays. I’ll bring back lots of video and pictures and hopefully it will be
fun for you to hear about and see what I have in store for you.
In other news, I went over 100 shows this week and thanks to you, it’s been a blast. Congrats to
Kemosabi Joe as he celebrated 59 years in broadcasting so suffice it to say, I have some catching up to
do. With your support I’ll keep chipping away. Before you know it, it’ll be 200 shows and then who
knows?!  We lost Toby Keith this month and as a tribute I put a little video on Facebook and wow the response
was overwhelming. It got over 17,000 views and we gained over 70 new followers, so welcome
everyone. When something like this happens it really brings us all together so thank you and welcome
to WTHU. I hope you’ll join me every morning from 9-12 as I play some of the greatest songs ever made.
I hope everyone who made their new year’s resolution is sticking with it and I wish you much success.
Remember, I ran health clubs for over 20 years and if you have a nutrition or fitness question, hit me up!
I’d love to help. I’d also love to hear your song requests so again, HIT ME UP. Just send me a message on FB and I’ll make
sure and respond asap. Have a great Month everyone and welcome aboard to all our new followers!
